By Brandon Marcello, 247Sports: Conference realignment always leads to expansion, and after the two strongest leagues in college athletics ballooned to 16 programs with the latest round of realignment, the SEC has decided to tap the brakes.
SEC commissioner Greg Sankey has several explanations for why he will not pursue further expansion after Oklahoma and Texas join the conference in 2024. Perhaps the most straightforward reason is logistics. Sankey believes conferences could become too big to function properly.
