Sun Devil Source: Former NFL linebacker Chris Claiborne, who in 1998 became USC’s first and only Butkus Award winner, is leaving his role as a quality control analyst with the Trojans to become Arizona State’s linebackers coach, a person familiar with the move told Sun Devil Source.
Claiborne, who played eight seasons in the NFL with the Detroit Lions (1999-2002), Minnesota Vikings (2003-04), St. Louis Rams (2005) and New York Giants (2006), interviewed for the position a week ago in the wake of ASU’s decision to promote associate head coach Antonio Pierce to full-time defensive coordinator a year after he shared the title with Marvin Lewis, who is returning to the special advisor role he served with the Sun Devils in 2019.
