Dane Miller breaks down the top contests with what's at stake & what both teams must do to win

This week’s Big 12 slate features six games, all on Saturday.

I went 2-3 in Week Ten, bringing my overall season record to 52-25, good for a 68% success rate.

For Week 11, I preview all six contests, breaking down what’s at stake, and highlighting what each team must do to win.

My picks against the spread and straight-up are summarized in the table below.

No. 17 Iowa State at Kansas

Saturday, November 9
12:30 pm PT, FS1

BETMGMSPORTSBOOK Line: Iowa State -3

What’s at Stake: Iowa State lost a game for the first time this season and now goes on the road to face a resurgent Kansas team.

The Jayhawks have looked much stronger over the past two games and arguably have the personnel to pull off the upset.

A defeat would knock ISU out of the playoff race.

Why Iowa State Wins: The defense contains Jalon Daniels when he runs and forces interceptions that the offense converts into points.

On the other side of the ball, the receivers create explosive plays in the pass game and the running backs convert short-yardage conversions for first downs.

Why Kansas Wins: Daniels doesn’t turn the ball over, the traditional run game is efficient, and the defensive line wins the physicality battle in the trenches.

Against Spread: Iowa State
Straight Up: Iowa State

No. 21 Colorado at Texas Tech

Saturday, November 9
1:00 pm PT, FOX

BETMGMSPORTSBOOK Line: Colorado -4

What’s at Stake: The Playoffs are on the line for Colorado.

The Buffs already have a conference loss and probably won’t make the Big 12 Championship Game if they drop another.

Texas Tech just beat undefeated Iowa State on the road and the matchup with CU is arguably the most meaningful game of the Red Raiders’ season.

Why Colorado Wins: The offensive line provides the time needed for Shedeur Sanders to get the ball to his elite wide receivers in open space.

Why Texas Tech Wins: The run game is established and the front seven gets consistent knockdowns on Sanders.

Against Spread: Colorado
Straight Up: Colorado

Oklahoma State at TCU

Saturday, November 9
4:00 pm PT, FS1

BETMGMSPORTSBOOK Line: TCU -11.5

What’s at Stake: As each week goes by, Oklahoma State gets closer and closer to going winless in the Big 12.

Now heading to TCU on the road, there isn’t much hope that anything has changed. Mike Gundy’s disparaging comments to the fanbase might have a negative effect on the team and result in an ugly loss.

For TCU, the game provides an opportunity to become bowl-eligible.

Why Oklahoma State Wins: The defense finds ways to generate turnovers and the run game is established on offense.

Why TCU Wins: Josh Hoover carves up the Pokes’ secondary and the front seven frustrates Alan Bowman with pressure to disrupt the timing of throws.

—My Picks—
Against Spread: TCU
Straight Up: TCU

No. 9 BYU at Utah

Saturday, November 9
7:15 pm PT, ESPN

BETMGMSPORTSBOOK Line: BYU -4

What’s at Stake: The Holy War takes center stage in the Big 12. BYU is undefeated and the matchup is the league’s lone contest in the late window.

The Utes have won nine of the last ten matchups but lost when the teams last played in 2021.

A defeat to the Cougars would be a humiliation for Utah’s program and their fans.

Why BYU Wins: The lines on both sides of the ball hold their own and win the line of scrimmage.

Why Utah Wins: The defense wins the turnover battle and the run game is efficient.

—My Picks—
Against Spread: BYU
Straight Up: BYU

Best Bets
West Virginia at Cincinnati

Saturday, November 9
9:00 am PT, FS1

BETMGMSPORTSBOOK Line: Cincinnati -4.5

What’s at Stake: Coming off a bye week, Cincinnati needs a win to stay within striking distance of the Big 12 Championship Game.

The Bearcats played just a single home game in the entire month of October and three of their last four contests have been on the road.

The matchup provides an opportunity to make a statement in front of their home fans.

Why West Virginia Wins: The traditional run game is established, the quarterback run plays are efficient, and the receivers rack up yards after the catch.

Why Cincinnati Wins: The one-two punch of Brendan Sorsby and Corey Kiner allows the UC offense to be successful in both phases of the game. On defense, the front seven prevents WVU’s quarterback from scampering for first downs.

—My Picks—
Against Spread: Cincinnati
Straight Up: Cincinnati

UCF at Arizona State

Saturday, November 9
4:00 pm PT, ESPN2

BETMGMSPORTSBOOK Line: Arizona State -3

What’s at Stake: UCF got its season back on track with a blowout win over Arizona.

The offense has regained its efficiency now that fourth-string quarterback Dylan Rizk is running the show.

Arizona State is coming off an impressive win over Oklahoma State and needs the win to keep pace in Big 12 standings.

Why UCF Wins: Rizk keeps the ball enough times to keep the ASU defense honest, is accurate with his throws, and running back RJ Harvey takes full advantage of a hesitant defense.

Why Arizona State Wins: Sam Leavitt is effective running the ball and the defense gets pressure on Rizk to force poor throws.

—My Picks—
Against Spread: UCF
Straight Up: UCF
