BYU did it again. After beating Arizona, Utah, and Arizona State to start the season, the independent Cougars added a defeat of Washington State last Saturday.

No other team in the nation can boast of four wins over Pac-12 schools, and that includes teams from within the Conference itself. To make matters worse, BYU may not be through yet, with a game against USC still on its schedule.

The Pac-12 has struggled with other teams from outside the nonconference West Coast teams all season, including from the Mountain West Conference.

Pac-12Earlier this year, Utah lost to San Diego State and UCLA lost to Fresno State, which gave Oregon all it wanted in Eugene.

So how West Coast college football teams stack up? Below, I’ve listed my Top 10 in reverse order.

It all could change this weekend, and I’ll update these rankings again next week.

10. Washington State (4-4)

Washington State lost a close game to BYU that hinged on a failed two-point conversion to BYU last Saturday, 21-19. The Cougars will have their hands full once again in a tough matchup against Arizona State.

9. Utah (4-3)

Utah came out on the losing end of a back-and-forth game against Oregon State, losing 42-34. The Utes will look to rebound against UCLA this Saturday. Both teams desperately need to win, which should make for an exciting matchup.

8. UCLA (5-3)

UCLA played well against Oregon but came up short in a 34-31 battle that came down to the final play. The Bruins face Utah in must-win game on Saturday.

7. Nevada (5-2)

Nevada lost a close and entertaining game to Fresno State 34-32. The Wolfpack take on a winless UNLV team this Saturday in what should be an easy win for Nevada.

6. Oregon State (5-2)

Oregon State continued to impress with a 42-34 victory over Utah. The Beavers travel to California this weekend, where they are favored to improve to 6-2 and remain in the thick of the North Division race.

5. Arizona State (5-2)

Arizona State had a bye last week and will have a chance get back on track against Washington State on Saturday. The Sun Devils are a mystery; just when you think they have turned the corner, they lose a game they’re expected to win.

4. Fresno State (6-2)

Fresno State recorded an impressive win against Nevada on Saturday, winning 43-32. This week, the Bulldogs prepare for one of their biggest challenges of the season against San Diego State.

3. BYU (6-2)

BYU beat a disappointing Washington State team 21-19 last Saturday, setting up a cross-country showdown against Virginia. The blue-clad Cougars are an impressive 4-0 against Pac-12 teams.

2. San Diego State (7-0)

San Diego State continued its impressive campaign with a 20-14 win over Air Force. Coming up on Saturday, the Aztecs face a substantial test against Fresno State in a must-watch game.

1. Oregon (6-1)

Oregon Ducks Logo Pac-12Oregon rallied to beat UCLA 34-31 after falling behind early in the game. The Ducks host Colorado this week, and are looking to continue their march toward a potential College Football Playoff bid.
