D’Anton Lynn to leave USC, take Penn State defensive coordinator job

By Connor Morrissette, 247Sports: USC will be seeing defensive coordinator D’Anton Lynn on the opposite sideline next year.

Lynn has stepped down to take the defensive coordinator position at Penn State, his alma mater, multiple sources confirmed to USCFootball.com. Lynn will coach in the Alamo Bowl Tuesday and then depart.

Lynn spent two years with the Trojans and improved a defense that had struggled mightily at the tail end of the 2022 season and for the majority of 2023. When former defensive coordinator Alex Grinch was relieved of his duties in November of 2023, USC was allowing an average of 34.5 points per game and was in the bottom 30 in the country in nearly every statistical category, including 120th in rushing defense and 107th against the pass.
