Cal and UCLA's rivalry has been reignited with recruiting battles

By Dylan McNeill, UCLA Wire: It’s far from a new rivalry, with the UCLA Bruins and Cal Bears meeting for the first time on the gridiron back in 1933 but both former Pac-12 Conference teams are entering 2026 with new coaching staffs and with a chance to set the tone for their season in Week 1.

UCLA will travel up to the Bay Area to face Cal in Week 1, the two program’s first meeting since both schools left the Pac-12 Conference. While UCLA partnered up with USC, Washington and Oregon and headed to the Big Ten, Cal and Stanford opted to join the ACC.
