The first week of the 2024 NFL season is in the books and there were plenty of standout performances by former SuperWest players.

Each week I highlight the Top 10 performances of West Coast school alums in our coverage footprint.

Given the high interest in SuperWest newcomers to the League, I also summarize the stats of some notable pro rookies who didn’t make the main list.

Top 10 NFL Performers

1. Josh Allen, QB, Bills/Wyoming

Things did not start well for Allen and the Bills, but they finished strong outscoring Arizona 31-11 down the stretch.

The former Wyoming quarterback was 18-23 for 232 yards and two TDs while, adding 39 yards on the ground and a pair of rushing TDs in the 34-28 Buffalo win.

2. Derek Carr, QB, Saints/Fresno State

The Saints cruised to an easy win over the Panthers to start the season and the former Fresno State QB was nearly perfect.

Carr ended the day with only four incomplete passes as he picked apart Carolina for 200 yards and three TDs through the air.

3. Byron Murphy Jr., CB, Vikings/Washington

The Vikings limited the under-matched Giants to almost nothing on offense.

Leading the way for Minnesota was the former Husky who ended the day with seven tackles and had a pass defended in the 28-6 victory.

4. Eric Kendricks, LB, Cowboys/UCLA

The Dallas defense was stifling against Cleveland.

Former Bruin Eric Kendricks led the way for the Cowboys with six tackles, a couple of sacks, and an interception.

5. Ka’imi Fairbairn, K, Texans/UCLA

Houston invested heavily in the offseason in their kicker, and it paid off in Week One.

The former Bruin was perfect on his three FG attempts, all 50+ yards in the Texan’s two-point win.

6. Corey Bojorquez, P, Browns/New Mexico

Cleveland did not have much of anything working for them in their embarrassing season-opening loss to Dallas.

One bright spot for the Browns was the left leg of the former Lobos star. He averaged 51.0 yards on his seven punts pinning the Cowboys inside the 20 on one of them.

7. Penei Sewell, OT, Lions/Oregon

The former Duck opened up holes for Lions running backs to run through as they churned out 163 yards.

Instrumental on the 70-yard game-winning drive in the overtime win over the Rams.

8. Jordan Love, QB, Packers/Utah State

The former Utah State signal caller started his opening night with good numbers passing for 260 yards and 2 TDs.

The night in Brazil did not end well, however, as the Pack fell to the Eagles and Love suffered a knee injury with 30 seconds left that will have him out for some time.

9. Sam Darnold, QB, Vikings/USC

The former USC quarterback keeps popping up every season.

He ended his 2024 opener with 208 passing yards and a TD in Minnesota’s win as he stepped up in a starting role after the preseason injury to JJ McCarthy.

10. Darius Muasau, LB, Giants/UCLA

New York did not have many bright spots in Week One—even their uniforms were bad.

The former Bruin LB had a pretty good outing, though, in his first NFL game. He led New York with four tackles and picked off a pass in the loss.
