By Cody Nagel, 247Sports: The first College Football Playoff rankings for the newly expanded 12-team event were released Tuesday night, sparking plenty of debate. The selection committee showcased how they view the best teams in the country so far this season, highlighting some surprising decisions and controversial placements among the initial top 25.
Nobody is arguing about No. 1 Oregon at the top, but there are certainly cases to be made throughout the rest of the rankings, particularly when it comes to where the other remaining unbeatens sit, as well as how the committee evaluates the big group of one-loss contenders.
The playoff selection committee is under new leadership this year as Michigan athletic director Warde Manuel takes position as the new chair. After the initial rankings were released, Manuel took questions from reporters to explain the thought process and evaluations behind the order.
