UCLA has received pushback from west coast fans who would have preferred the conference stay together, but now a more powerful voice is expressing some opposition to the move: California Governor (and chair of the UC Board of Regents) Gavin Newsom.
If the Bruins were somehow blocked from leaving, it’s highly unlikely that such a shift would affect the future plans of USC.
On today’s episode of Locked On Pac-12, Spencer McLaughlin examines two of the most recent headlines in the west coast college football landscape. The other one comes surrounding the transfer portal, which was, until realignment, a hot topic of discussion.
It may soon move back to the forefront after a recent piece of news. The NCAA’s Division I Council expressed support for a measure that would expand the availability of the transfer portal even further to its student-athletes.
If implemented, the measure would create rules with regards to providing schools with advanced notice of a transfer request and also specify when players may enter the portal.
What it would also do, more importantly, is get rid of the “blanket rule prohibiting transferring more than once.”
This could harm some Pac-12 schools more than others if it became a legitimate NCAA bylaw.
