Week 6 of the college football season is upon us.

While the Mountain West Conference has been more disappointing each week, the race is still anybody’s to win.

Here are my brief previews and predictions for this weekend’s slate.

Colorado State at Nevada

Friday, October 7
7:30 p.m., FS1

Do we really need to discuss this game?

The Rams haven’t won a single game this year and could be the worst team in all of college football, although in-state rival Colorado has some case to be made.

The Wolfpack cruise to a win and the Rams struggles continue.

Prediction: Nevada 34, Colorado State 9

UNLV at San Jose State

Friday, October 7
7:30 p.m., CBS Sports

If you would have said before the season that this would be a must-watch game, I wouldn’t have believed you.

Well, here we are. The 4-1 UNLV squad heads to California to face 3-1 San Jose State on Friday night in a terrific battle.

Both Marcus Arroyo and Brent Brennan’s name have circulated in coaching circles for Colorado and Arizona State, and a win would improve their resumes even more.

This one is a toss-up, but UNLV’s offense has looked a tiny bit better so far and they squeak out a tough victory.

Prediction: UNLV 27, San Jose State 24

Air Force at Utah State

Saturday, October 8
4:00 p.m., FS1

There are going to be so many lopsided matchups in the MWC this year, and this is one of the biggest ones.

Utah State’s only victory came against Connecticut in Week 1 (although the Huskies did just beat Fresno State).

Meanwhile, the Falcons are the best team in the MWC right now, and their high-powered rushing attack is way too good for the Aggies.

Prediction: Air Force 38, Utah State 13

Wyoming at New Mexico

Saturday, October 8
4:00 p.m., CBS Sports

This is an interesting game.

For starters, the Cowboys have lost two straight after getting off to a 3-1 start and beating Air Force in Laramie.

The Lobos are just 2-3 but they played pretty well against both Boise State and UNLV, so we will see how good the Lobos are against Wyoming.

Still, the Cowboys take this game, although New Mexico puts up a fight once again.

Prediction: Wyoming 31, New Mexico 24

Fresno State at Boise State

Saturday, October 8
6:45 p.m., FS1

This is a game that Bulldogs head coach Jeff Tedford and his team have had circled since the beginning of the season.

Unfortunately, times are rough in the Valley.

They have lost three straight and just lost to UConn, giving the Huskies their first FBS win since 2019. Jake Haener is out once again, and the Bulldogs are going to have a very tough time without their leader.

The Broncos win on the Blue Turf, and the Dogs fall to 1-4.

Prediction: Boise State 31, Fresno State 17

Hawai’i at San Diego State

Saturday, October 8
7:30 p.m., CBS Sports

On paper, the Aztecs should have no problem with Hawai’i.

The Rainbow Warriors’ only win came against Duquesne, which isn’t a good win whatsoever. However, San Diego State looked awful offensively against Boise State last weekend, totaling 33 passing yards and 81 rushing yards in an ugly 35-13 loss.

Jeff Hecklinski, the Aztec offensive coordinator, was fired, and this is a forgetful season for San Diego State in the debut of their brand new stadium.

San Diego State gets the win, but the 21-point favorites don’t even score that many points on Saturday.

Prediction: San Diego State 14, Hawai’i 10
