By Chris Hansen, Eugene Register-Guard via Yahoo Sports: With an estimated crowd of 27,500 in attendance and temperatures approaching 90 degrees, Oregon played its first game in its new football-only facility on Sept. 23, 1967.
The christening of Autzen Stadium didn’t go great for the Ducks, as they had nine turnovers in a 17-13 loss to No. 9 Colorado and the crowd – though a record number for an Oregon home game in Eugene – was well below the 41,078 capacity.
Talk about humble beginnings.
No one then could’ve known what Autzen Stadium would become or the role it would play in the rise of Oregon on the college football landscape.
