By Ahmad Akkaoui, USCFootball.com: Former USC wide receiver — and the founder of the Mr. Irrelevant Award in the NFL — Paul Salata died on October 16, a day shy of his 95th birthday, according to the USC Sports Information Department.
Salata was a part of the USC football program from 1944 to 1947, and the USC baseball program in 1948 before getting drafted to the NFL the following year. He missed the 1945 season while serving in the Army Air Corps during World War II.
