Teams often have to make room for new additions or to churn over the back half to the roster. If it’s a new coaching staff, the overhaul can be drastic.
Other times — much more often these days given the record number of players departing for the transfer market — a team loses players it wanted to keep, whether that’s seeing proven commodities leave for a pay day or to play for a contender, or promising underclassmen exiting t0 find a clearer path to playing time.
