For now, there are still questions about which team is the best in the Conference

Where do we begin this time?

With one weekend left in October, there should be plenty of clarity from the Mountain West.

For now, there are still questions about which team is the best in the Conference: Boise State has responded since an ugly loss, Wyoming has five wins, and Fresno State is somehow hanging around despite a 1-4 start.

Here are the latest power rankings.

1. Boise State Broncos (5-2, 4-0) â—„â–º
This looks right but it also feels weird.

The Broncos are 5-2 overall and 4-0 in MWC play after they defeated Air Force in a tough game in Colorado.

Boise State faces Colorado State next weekend, so they should remain on top for at least a little bit longer.

2. Wyoming Cowboys (5-3, 3-1) â–²2
It’s already getting weird.

Wyoming has five wins this season and just one loss through four games in MWC play.

Things look good in Laramie as they face Hawaii and Colorado State, but the end of the season provides the ultimate tests against Boise State and Fresno State.

3. Air Force Falcons (5-3, 2-3) â–¼1
Air Force was on the top spot for some time but the Falcons have fallen to three.

They are 5-3 overall but have lost three MWC games. Wyoming and Boise State are valid, but that Utah State loss still hurts.

Air Force faces Army, New Mexico, and Colorado State for the next few weeks—and that helps.

4. Fresno State Bulldogs (3-4, 2-1) â–²1
Yes, the under-.500 Bulldogs are fourth in the MWC.

They have won two straight games since losing to Boise and Jake Haener should be back next week (hopefully).

The offense is clicking, Jordan Mims just gashed the Lobos, and the Bulldogs could take hold of the West Division with a win over SDSU.

5. San Jose State Spartans (4-2, 2-1) â–¼2

The Spartans had their game postponed after the tragic death of RB Camden McWright.

They scheduled a makeup game against New Mexico State, but it will take time to work through the trauma of their loss.

6. San Diego State Aztecs (4-3, 2-1) â—„â–º

Who knew moving a safety to quarterback would change things up as much as they have?

The Aztecs have life and Jalen Mayden has given this team a spark.

7. UNLV Runnin’ Rebels (4-4, 2-2) â—„â–º
UNLV really knows how to disappoint people.

After a 4-1 start, Marcus Arroyo’s team has dropped three straight and just got run over by Notre Dame, 44-21.

They have a bye, so it’s time to regroup if they have any hopes of a second-half run.

8. Utah State Aggies (3-5, 2-2) â—„â–º

The Aggies win over Air Force keeps them ahead of these other teams.

Make no mistake: These next few teams aren’t good.

9. Colorado State Rams (2-5, 2-1) â–²1

The Rams went from likely not to win any games to 2-1 in MWC play.

They have defeated Nevada and Hawaii, somehow.

10. Hawaii Rainbow Warriors (2-6, 1-2) â–²1

Hawaii has one MWC win and it came against Nevada—so here they are.

There isn’t much to like on the Island, except the lifestyle itself.

11. Nevada Wolfpack (2-6, 0-4) â–²1

The Wolfpack are looking forward to next season after six straight losses.

12. New Mexico Lobos (2-6, 0-4) â–¼3

The Lobos have lost five straight and just got embarrassed at home to a Jake Haener-less Fresno State team by a score of 41-9.
