WSU Regents’ $20M will fill operating gap, not fund player acquisition

By Barry Bolton, CougFan: The $20 million the Washington State University Board of Regents is allocating to the WSU athletic department in the upcoming fiscal year is to bridge a massive gap between athletics’ operating revenues and expenses, not to fund player retention and acquisition, a highly credible source close to the matter tells Cougfan.com.

Athletic department revenue in the fiscal year that begins July 1 is expected to drop by $20 million, down to $54 million, as the aftermath of the implosion of the old Pac-12 takes full effect, according to the source, who requested anonymity for this story.
