By Barry Bolton, CougFan: Washington State’s Board of Regents today is expected to approve the WSU athletic department’s budget for fiscal year 2026, which begins this July 1, and the amount is unchanged from the $74 million level of the current fiscal year.
Depending on one’s viewpoint, that can be interpreted as either a great victory, given the considerable budget challenges the university faces, or resignation that the WSU Board of Regents doesn’t see the broad value of athletics in that $74 million represents an $11 million drop from two years ago.
