By Derrian Carter, Greenville News via Yahoo Sports: Clemson coach Dabo Swinney wants a strict five-year eligibility rule to come to college football.
Swinney loves the NCAA’s redshirt rule, by which players can participate in four games or less to maintain their redshirt status and play in postseason games without it counting toward the allotted contests in a season. Still, he thinks the rule has caused “unintended consequences,” including players who would play in four games, redshirt and opt out to retain their eligibility with plans to enter the transfer portal.
To resolve this, Swinney wishes college football caps player participation to a five-year limit to get rid of redshirting for the purpose of preserving a season of eligibility.
