Utah AD Mark Harlan to serve on College Football Playoff Selection Committee

November 13, 2025

By Utah Athletics: Utah Director of Athletics Mark Harlan has been appointed to the College Football Playoff Selection Committee for the remainder of the 2025 selection process, CFP executive director Rich Clark announced Thursday.

Harlan, in his eighth year as athletics director at Utah, served on the committee in 2023 and will rejoin the committee to serve as the Big 12 Conference’s representative, replacing Baylor A.D. Mack Rhoades, who stepped down from the committee today.

“I’m honored to be asked to step up and serve once again on the College Football Playoff selection committee at this critical time in the season, though I wished it was under different circumstances,” Harlan said. “I have great respect for the selection committee’s work and its members, as well as for the CFP staff, and I look forward to contributing in the weeks ahead.”

Harlan, who also served a three-year term on the NCAA Division I Football Oversight Committee from 2019-2022, joins a distinguished group of leaders in intercollegiate athletics, including former coaches and student-athletes, college administrators and journalists, along with sitting athletics directors, on the committee.

Mark Harlan is an excellent choice to serve as the Big 12 Conference’s representative on the College Football Playoff Selection Committee,” said Big 12 Commissioner Brett Yormark. “Mark’s previous experience on the committee will serve the interests of all of college football alongside the other committee members.
