By B.J. Rain, Bronco Nation News: A professional football team on the Blue Turf in Boise? It nearly happened. And still potentially could.
Documents obtained from Boise State University by BoiseDev and Bronco Nation News under the Idaho Public Records Act show that the university and the United Football League had a verbal agreement in place to move a team to Boise ahead of the 2026 season before the deal eventually fell through.
“In early 2025, Boise State engaged with the UFL regarding the potential use of Albertsons Stadium for a new Boise team,” Boise State Deputy AD Cody Gougler said in a statement. “Discussions were paused following league decisions to focus on other markets.”
