Three local walk-ons step into bigger role for the Buffaloes

BuffStampede: It was a day of firsts for three local walk-ons on Colorado’s football team. Against San Diego State this past Saturday, tight end C.J. Schmanski became just the 10th walk-on in program history to start for the Buffaloes since 1992, and he hauled in his first two career catches.

While manning the STAR back position, Curtis Appleton had his first career interception late in the fourth quarter, which secured victory for the Buffs. And Mac Willis saw his first collegiate action as the team’s kickoff specialist. Three of his five kicks went deep enough to force a touchback.
