Stanford DL Benedict Umeh to debut this fall after Hodgkin lymphoma battle

By Jackson Moore, 247Sports: The Stanford Cardinal football program made a major recruiting haul in July 2023 when it landed four-star recruit Benedict Umeh. After battling Stage IV Hodgkin lymphoma, Umeh appears set to make his debut on the field for the Cardinal this season.

Despite battling the cancer, Umeh now stands at an impressive 6-foot-5 and 290 pounds. A glimpse of Umeh at Stanford’s ongoing training camp would give no hint of the health challenges he has faced.

Benedict Umeh was Stanford's top-ranked defensive commitment in the 2024 class. Battles with Stage IV Hodgkin Lymphoma kept him off the field last year, but the highly-touted and now-healthy lineman is on pace to make his collegiate debut this season.
