Rutgers has run up half-billion $ deficit since joining Big Ten

By Dylan McNeill, UCLA Wire: Joining the Big Ten Conference doesn’t ensure massive revenue for college athletic programs. Rutgers University is proof of that, with the Scarlet Knights’ athletic program running a $78 million deficit for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Rutgers joined the Big Ten in 2014, leaving the American Athletic Conference but the move hasn’t resulted in financial success for the athletic department. According to Keith Sargeant of NJ Advance Media, Rutgers has run a deficit of $516.9 million dollars since joining the Big Ten.
