The offensive line is the engine that drives the offense.
A good line can lead you to glory, while a poor line will have your offense spinning its tires in the sand.
There are some outstanding O-Line units in the West.
Today, as we continue to prepare for the 2025 season, we look at the region’s best offensive guards and tackles.
1. Utah Utes
The Utes have the best offensive lineman in the West with Spencer Fano lining up at tackle.Throw Caleb Lomu on the other end of the line and you’d be hard pressed to find a better pair of tackles in the nation. Fano is an All-American and a sure-fire First-Rounder next April.
In the interior of the line, you have three seniors with Jaren Kump at Center and Caleb Lomu and Michael Mokofisi at Guards. All five of the projected linemen are returning starters for Utah, and they boast a combined 115 starts among them.
The Utes are a deep group; even the backups are vets. Alex Harrison and Zereoue Williams are senior back ups and should not miss a beat if called upon. Kieth Olson could be a star once he cracks the lineup next season.
2. Oregon Ducks
Dan Lanning has reloaded on the offensive line. Both tackles slated to start came to Eugene via the portal and both have a ton of talent.Isaiah World is an NFL tackle in waiting while Alex Harkey was an All-Conference performer at Texas State last season. Emmanuel Pregnon comes in from USC, where he was All-Big Ten and has an NFL future as well.
They are joined on the line by Matthew Bedford, who has NFL size and strength but needs to stay healthy.
For good measure the Ducks also boast the best Center in the nation in Iapani Laloulu. His talent is through the roof and so are his leadership qualities.
3. Boise State Broncos
Ashton Jeanty had a record-setting season on the ground last year, and while the back might be gone, just about everyone that paved the way for him is back.Four of the five starters return from a line that ranked 12th in the nation in sacks allowed per game. Kage Casey is the star of the unit and the best lineman in our coverage area not playing for Oregon or Utah.
Mason Randolph, who was limited due to injuries last season, has only allowed one sack in his career. While Casey might be the best of the bunch, he has a lot of help around him.
Roger Carreon could be an all-conference performer at Guard and Hall Schmidt at Tackle opposite Casey will prevent defenses from rolling the pass rush to that side too often.
4. USC Trojans
This unit will be built around Elijah Paige at left tackle, a guy who is not going to get penalties called on him—or allow many sacks.Lani Noa and Raymond Tobias should hold down the right side of the line. Those three give USC a solid foundation for the blockers up front. DJ Wingfield was a consistent starter for Purdue last season and will be a very good run blocker at guard.
J’onre Reed will step into the center position, a spot he held at Syracuse the last two seasons.
The trojans were good up front in 2024, ranking 14th in the nation in sacks per game allowed, and they could be even better in the trenches this season.
5. Arizona State Sun Devils
The Sun Devils rode their polished offensive line to nearly 200 yards rushing per game in 2024. A majority of that unit returns, losing only Luis Cordova and Sirri Kandiyeli to the portal.ASU was able to fill those holes with a couple of big-time transfers of their own: Jimeto Obigbo and Xander Ruggerroli could have an immediate impact. Obigbo should be starting at one of the guard spots.
They join returnees Josh Atkins on the outside and interior linemen Ben Coleman and Kyle Scott.
ASU should once again be able to push opponents off the line this season.
6. Colorado Buffaloes
The Buffs’ revamped offensive line should be much improved in 2025.While the line is full of newcomers, the lone holdover will be the best of the bunch. Jordan Seaton is a big tackle who should be in consideration for All-Big XII honors at the end of the season.
The slotted stating guards have a lot of playing time under their belts. Zylon Crisler brings a ton of experience from Illinois while Xavier Hill started every game of his career at Memphis.
Mana Taimani enters from Ole Miss without a ton of experience but a huge upside on the opposite end of the line from Seaton.
7. Air Force Falcons
The Falcons are always going to be physical and disciplined up front, and this season will be no different. The center piece of the unit will be in the middle as Costen Cooley is one of the better centers in the nation.
Jace Sutulovich is another player with a lot of experience and he will be joined at guard by Alec Falk, who was in the rotation last season.
The Falcons are going to run it and everyone knows it. This group will still get it done and their schemes make them a tough unit to outwork.
8. BYU Cougars
The Cougars were very good up-front last season but enter the 2025 season with a lot of holes to fill and talent to replace. However, the revamped line could be pretty good once again this season.Weylin Lapuaho, a returner who has started 36 of his 38 games during his collegiate career, will be getting ready for his rookie season in the NFL at this time next season.
The other four spots on the line will be filled by what could be a very deep rotation for BYU. The Cougars have a lot of versatility and players that can plug into multiple spots.
Look for transfers Andrew Gentry and Kyle Sfarcioc to make an immediate mark.
9. Wyoming Cowboys
The line could be the strongest position group for the Cowboys in 2025.Jack Walsh has a ton of talent and will be on the All-Conference squad. He’ll be joined in the interior by Wes King and Caden Barnett, a pair of players with a lot of experience.
Barnett will make the move from tackle to guard and give way to Rex Johnsen, and Nathan Geiger to play on the outside.
The Wyoming Line will be drastically improved this fall.
10. Washington Huskies
The Husky line is looking to transform itself, getting bigger and hopefully better in the offseason. The anchor be newcomer Carver Willis, who was a two-year starter and captain for Kansas State. The sixth-year senior enters with a lot of leadership and experience.
Paki Finau packed on more pounds and muscle this offseason and the redshirt freshman could be ready to make his mark in the Big Ten. The return of Geiran Hatchett is huge in the interior and he will once again line up next to his brother, center Landon Hatchett.
The 2023 version of this unit was the best in the country. Look for the 2025 version to look more like that unit than it did in 2024.
11. San Jose State Spartans
The Spartans are going to be good this season and it might start up front. The line will be anchored by pair of talented seniors in Peseti Lapuaho and Sione Nomani.
The Spartans will have some depth in the middle of the line with a healthy Joseph Harbert at center and Hudson Mesa also in the mix.
Tyler Chen at guard and Nate Hale at tackle should also have an impact.
12. Nevada Wolf Pack
Josh Grabowski at guard and Andrew Madrigal at center are really good. If they still had Isaiah World you can only imagine how good this unit might be . . . but World is at Oregon and the Pack has a pair of transfers that will work around Madrigal and Grabowski.Hadine Diaby was a consistent starter at Tennessee State while Jack Foster made an impact at Idaho. If Jeff Choate’s team is to flirt with a bowl game this season, those guys will need to step up with the jump in levels.
With two potential All-Conference performers anchoring this unit, the Pack have a decent chance to make some noise.
