By Vic Aquino, SBNation via Yahoo Sports: After a 10-year absence, the rebirth of the Poinsettia Bowl in 2026 feels a bit less nostalgic and more like a statement: The champions from each the Mountain West and the Pac-12 face-off at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego eight months from now.
The Poinsettia Bowl started in the 1950s between West Coast and East Coast military services. It ended with a familiar cyclical history when the U.S. fleet was deployed to the Suez Canal crisis in 1956.
Fast forward to 2005, the Holiday Bowl principals revived the Poinsettia series to bolster tourism in San Diego by having two bowl games before refocusing efforts solely on the Holiday Bowl 11 years later.
