When Washington’s Jaxson Kirkland decided to return for another season, he ensured that the entire 2020 Husky offensive line—which averaged 6-foot-6 and 324 pounds—would remain intact.

Kirkland, who began his career as a starter at right guard before moving to left tackle last season, has started all 29 Washington games he’s appeared in over three seasons, missing two in 2019 due to injuries.

Despite playing his high school football in Oregon, Kirkland followed his father, Dean Kirkland, to Seattle. A three-year starter for the Huskies at right guard from 1988-1990, the elder Kirkland capped his final season with a Rose Bowl victory over Iowa.

The younger Kirkland matched one of his father’s achievements in 2020, earning All-Pac-12 First Team honors. He signaled his plans to forge his own path to Pasadena in announcing his return, tweeting that he had “some unfinished business with my brothers.”
