Oregon’s Dan Lanning called Clemson’s Dabo Swinney to ‘pick his brain’

By Alexander Turri, Clemson Wire, via Yahoo Sports: Oregon head coach Dan Lanning isn’t afraid to learn from others — including those he once considered rivals. During Big Ten Media Days in Las Vegas, Lanning revealed he reached out to Clemson’s Dabo Swinney this offseason, looking for perspective as the Ducks aim to build on their fast start in the Big Ten.

“I actually called Dabo this offseason,” Lanning said on Big Ten Network. “When I was at Georgia, that was somebody I never got to visit with. They were kind of our arch nemesis, so never really had a chance to really talk to him, but I always had a lot of respect for what he did.”

That respect led to a 45-minute phone call — and one piece of advice from Swinney that’s now shaping Oregon’s 2025 mindset.
