By Carter Bahns, 247Sports: Not every true freshman can be Jeremiah Smith. The Ohio State wide receiver was a rare case last season of a first-year college football player who became an immediate superstar.
Among the top recruits in the 2025 freshman class, only a small handful will secure starting jobs early next season, and even fewer will be standout weapons from the get-go. Spring camp is the first opportunity for them to carve out a role, and some have already begun the process.
It was obvious this time last offseason that Smith would be an impact receiver for Ohio State. A couple of early enrollees this spring indicated, too, with their performance that they have what it takes to crack the lineup as freshmen.
Spring games, whether traditional or modified, offer the public an opportunity to see those freshmen for the first time at their new schools, and some in particular are worth monitoring in this month’s scrimmages.
