By Chris Karpman, Sun Devil Source: Arizona State baseball had the home plate umpire in its pocket in an elimination game of the Austin, Texas, Regional against Fairfield on Sunday. Literally.
With the game tied at 6-6 in the top of the sixth inning and two runners on base, Fairfield senior pitcher Eli Oliphant threw a wild pitch high and inside to ASU freshman Sean McLain. Fairfield catcher Matt Venuto quickly turned around to try to locate the errant ball but could not find it anywhere.
