SI CalSportsReport: Officials of the Mountain West Conference — or as Pac-12 folks like to say, the “other” West Coast conference — are optimistic that it will start its fall football season on October 24, according to a report by Yahoo.com’s Pete Thamel.

A vote of the Mountain West university presidents could be conducted Friday, or perhaps sooner, on whether to approve the plan developed on Monday by Mountain West athletic directors.
