By Mountain West Conference: The Mountain West announced its 2024-25 men’s basketball awards Tuesday. The league’s 11 head coaches and selected media members voted on the All-Conference teams, as well as the coach, player, defensive player, newcomer, sixth man and freshman honors.
New Mexico head coach Richard Pitino was named the MW Steve Fisher Coach of the Year, while Lobo junior guard Donovan Dent was selected as the MW Player of the Year. San Diego State’s Magoon Gwath was voted as the Defensive Player and Freshman of the Year. Wyoming senior guard Obi Agbim was voted the MW Newcomer of the Year, while Boise State junior forward Javan Buchanan was recognized as MW Sixth Man of the Year.
Pitino guided the Lobos to a 17-3 mark in Conference play. New Mexico earned its third MW regular-season title and first since 2013 when Steve Alford was the head coach of the Lobos. This marks the first time that a New Mexico coach has been named MW Coach of the Year since 2013.
