Normally, this would be just another tune-up for the Trojans to get ready for the start of conference play. However, this particular contest is notable in that it will mark the return to the Coliseum of former USC head coach Clay Helton, who is now in his fourth season as the head coach at Georgia Southern.

Helton coached the Trojans from 2015-2021.
