The Pac-12 has struggled with teams from outside the Conference on the West Coast this season, particularly against programs from the Mountain West Conference.
Independent BYU beat Arizona, Utah, and Arizona State to start the season. Utah also lost to San Diego State. And UCLA lost to Fresno State, which gave Oregon all it wanted in Eugene.
We’ll see how Washington State fares against BYU on Saturday.
Below, I’ve listed my Top 10 college football teams on the West Coast in reverse order.
I’ll update this ranking each week for the rest of the season.
10. Utah State (4-2)
Utah State won a close battle 28-24 against UNLV. Up next for Aggies will be a showdown at home against Colorado State.
9. Oregon State (4-2)
Oregon State had a bye last week, but the prior week the Beavers lost to Washington State. On Saturday, Oregon State will take on Utah; it should be a tough battle.
8. Utah (4-2)
Utah played great last Saturday, upsetting Arizona State 35-21. They will look to make it four wins in a row with a victory over Oregon State this weekend.
7. Fresno State (5-2)
Fresno State shut out Wyoming this past weekend, setting up a showdown against Nevada on Saturday afternoon.
6. UCLA (5-2)
UCLA beat a disappointing Washington team 24-17 on the road. The Bruins will look to make a statement this weekend against the Oregon Ducks.
5. BYU (5-2)
BYU is coming off a loss to Baylor; the Cougars lost 38-24 and now are out of the Top 25. BYU hopes to rebound against Washington State, which has won three straight, but recently fired its head coach.
4. Arizona State (5-2)
Arizona State is coming off a disappointing loss to Utah. Just when you think the Sun Devils have turned the corner, they end up taking a beating. ASU has a bye this week to regroup.
3. Nevada (5-1)
Nevada beat Hawaii 34-17 and now will travel to Fresno to take on the Fresno State Bulldogs.
2. San Diego State (6-0)

1. Oregon (5-1)
Oregon beat Cal in a close 24-17 battle last Friday night. Oregon travels to UCLA next to play the Bruins. It should be a good game—and the Ducks might just be on upset alert.
