The Bootleg: Mississippi State entered Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, with a statement against the defending College Football Playoff national champion. Led by Stanford graduate transfer quarterback KJ Costello, the Bulldogs pulled off a 44-34 upset of the No. 6 Tigers, a program- and SEC-record performance.
Costello completed 36 of 60 passes (60.0 percent) for 623 yards and five touchdowns to two interceptions. With his yardage, he set single-game MSU and conference marks, respectively edging Dak Prescott’s 508 (Mississippi State, 2015) and Eric Zeier’s 544 (Georgia, 1993).
