By Brian Mcinnis, Spectrum News: Realization of a new stadium in Halawa got simultaneously closer and farther away on Wednesday.
The Stadium Authority voted unanimously in a special session Wednesday to finalize major terms of a new stadium contract with a team of private developers, with demolition of 50-year-old Aloha Stadium expected to commence by the end of the month.
But with that came the announcement that the projected opening of the stadium has been moved from fall 2028 to March 2029, and that the requirement of 25,000 seats has been whittled to 22,500, with options for future expansion.
It will have 10 luxury boxes and be compatible for football, soccer and rugby.
