By UNLV News Center: For more than five decades, Sam Boyd Stadium stood as a backdrop for some of the most unforgettable moments in Las Vegas sports and entertainment history. From packed football Saturdays to rock legends, the stadium helped shape the city’s identity long before Allegiant Stadium lit up the skyline.
Now, after years of transition, that chapter is officially closed. In June 2025, ownership of Sam Boyd Stadium and its surrounding land was transferred to Clark County. The deal, which includes a $5 million reimbursement to UNLV, clears the way for new development of the property.
But before we look ahead, it’s worth revisiting the moments — and the people — that made Sam Boyd Stadium a Las Vegas landmark.
