Bear Territory: Steve Hendrickson, a standout linebacker for the California Golden Bears in the late 1980s who went on to play seven seasons in the National Football League, died Friday at his home in Idaho according to a report by Marty James of the Napa Valley Register. He was 54.
A star at Napa High School in California, Hendrickson played for the Golden Bears for two seasons in 1987 and 1988, making the 1988 Pac-10 All-Academic Team and winning MVP honors in the Blue-Gray All-Star Game. Hendrickson was also named the recipient of the program’s Joe Roth Award that same year.
