By J. Brady McCollough, Los Angeles times: The Penn State Nittany Lions were 24-point favorites against Illinois, a 2-5 team whose coach had said earlier in the week that the Fighting Illini did not have players good enough to compete in the Big Ten Conference.
Penn State was ranked No. 7 in the country and playing in front of 100,000 fans in Happy Valley, its idyllic slice of America.
