By Daniel Libit, Sportico: When Oregon State graduate JP Bertram started an OSU-themed podcast four-and-a-half years ago, alongside his two college buddies, Terry Horstman and Benny Wehage, the idea was to celebrate their alma mater, not scrutinize it.
“Even in a rough loss or drama around a specific coach, we tried to find the nuggets that are positive and affirmative of the program,” said Bertram, whose day job is as the vice president of marketing for a small tech company in Portland. “It has always been top of mind to position Oregon State in the best possible light.”
The Belligerent Beavs podcast, launched in May 2021, staked out its territory highlighting Oregon State’s lesser-known programs, such as women’s soccer. The hosts originally included discussion of beer and favorite local breweries, though that focus has since faded.
