By Brian McInnis, Spectrum News: The future of the Hawaiian Airlines Diamond Head Classic is in doubt after its operator, ESPN Events, announced Monday that the University of Hawaii-hosted college basketball tournament will not take place in the 2025-26 season.
ESPN told Spectrum News that the move is a pause and not a cancellation of a three-day event which since 2009 has consistently offered UH its best nonconference opponents and national TV opportunities. It cited a rapidly evolving college athletics landscape and a need to reflect on how to best proceed.
