Editorial Standards and Ethics Policy
At SuperWest Sports, we are committed to upholding the highest standards of journalistic integrity. Our goal is to inform and engage fans of college athletics in the American West through accurate, fair, and responsible reporting.
The following principles guide all our editorial decisions.
Accuracy and Disclosure
SuperWest Sports makes every effort to rigorously fact-check and verify all content before publication to ensure its accuracy and reliability.
Where necessary, we distinguish between factual reporting, informed analysis, and personal commentary, allowing readers to understand the nature of the content they are consuming.
In case of an error or omission, we issue corrections or clarifications promptly and quickly.
Editorial Independence
SuperWest Sports maintains full editorial independence. Our coverage is not influenced by advertisers, sponsors, affiliated institutions, or athletic organizations.
We avoid conflicts of interest—both real and perceived—and will disclose them openly if they are unavoidable.
All editorial decisions are based solely on journalistic merit, public relevance, and the interests of our regional audience.
Fair and Responsible Content
SuperWest Sports endeavors to present its content fairly and respectfully, avoiding stereotypes, offensive language, or content that may cause harm.
We uphold strong standards of privacy, especially when dealing with sensitive personal information. Such information is only published when justified by significant public interest.
We do not publish content that glorifies violence, crime, obscenity, or other anti-social behavior.
Extra care is taken when covering stories involving minors, vulnerable individuals, or those affected by trauma or tragedy.
Transparency and Accountability
We aim to identify and attribute sources whenever possible, providing readers with transparency and the ability to assess credibility.
We grant anonymity only when it is deemed essential for public interest and when all other means of obtaining the information have been exhausted. In such cases, we ensure the source is vetted and reliable.
Our journalists are accountable to their readers via email and X. We welcome dialogue concerning our editorial decisions and welcome criticism that may improve our reporting and practices.
Social Media and Email Engagement
While SuperWest Sports does not offer a comments section for articles or provide a community forum, all of our writers, editors, and staffers are available and responsive on X, via posts and direct messages, as well as by email.
Innovation and Evolving Formats
We embrace innovation to better serve our audience, including exploring new formats and technologies for storytelling and engagement.
However, we do not use generative AI to aid content creation. When on rare occasions we ask an AI bot to analyze a situation, we reproduce its answer verbatim, clearly identifying it as an AI response.
Our commitment to ethical journalism remains unchanged, regardless of the medium or technology involved.
