Early look at Mountain West football’s top-10 prospects for 2027 NFL Draft

By Chris Murray, Nevada Sports Net: It’s become increasingly hard for Group of 6 players to be selected in the NFL draft. This year, only 15 such players were picked, with eight of those coming in the seventh round. Ohio State had 11 picks, just four shy of the Group of 6 conferences combined. Of the top-100 picks, only three hailed from Group of 6 schools. However, 18 of those top 100 transferred from Group of 6 schools to the Power 4 before being selected. That has narrowed the pathway for players to be selected in the NFL draft straight out of the Mountain West, which had three selections this year — San Diego State’s Chris Johnson; Boise State’s Kage Casey and New Mexico’s Keyshawn James-Newby.

Couple that with five MW schools leaving for the Pac-12 this summer and the conference’s potential 2027 NFL draft picks aren’t plentiful. But there are a handful of prospects worth tracking.
