By Erik Skopil, Duck Territory: Throw out the conspiracy theories. Oregon is siding with a local walk-on for its No. 2 quarterback role because he’s “earned those opportunities in practice.”
Redshirt sophomore Brock Thomas, a Sheldon High School product, has appeared in mop-up duty ahead of Austin Novosad and Luke Moga in the team’s most recent two blowout wins, including Saturday’s 56-10 win over Rutgers. It’s been a merit-based decision, Ducks coach Dan Lanning explained at his Monday evening press conference.
“There’s not necessarily anything that Brock hasn’t done to earn those reps,” Lanning said.
