As a voter for the Pac-12 Players of the Week, my choices may occasionally differ from the official selections.

Pac-12Either way, I want to share my picks and give brief explanations of why I voted the way I did for the Freshman and Player of the Week.

My tweeted picks and summaries appear below.

Player of the Week — Boogie Ellis, USC
Ellis

My vote for Player of the Week came down to Boogie Ellis and Kerr Kriisa. I gave the nod to Ellis due to his career-high 31 points against then-No. 8 UCLA.

Not only did the USC star have a career-high in points, but he also tallied six assists and zero turnovers. The victory kept the Trojans in contention for an At-Large bid to the NCAA Tournament and deserves recognition.

Kriisa had a strong road trip in the State of Washington, but the performance against a Top 10 Bruin team was more impactful.

Freshman Player of the Week — Jordan Pope, Oregon State
Pope

There were only three players nominated for the Freshman Player of the Week, making this selection the easiest of the year.

Kylan Boswell and Adrame Diongue were the other freshmen nominated but neither came close to the production Jordan Pope put up.

Averaging 15.0 points per game against the Mountain programs, Pope will likely be a unanimous selection this week.
