By Matt Zemek, UCLA Wire: Fans and commentators know that in contemporary college football, defenses try to slow-walk their substitutions so that the play clock will run down and the offense has to burn a timeout. College football supervisors of officiating are trying to make a necessary adjustment in 2025. Southeastern Conference supervisor of officials John McDaid, speaking at SEC media days, told Football Scoop about the adjusted approach to late or slow defensive substitutions:
“We go into what we call substitution mechanics,” McDaid said.
