By Jeff Tarpley, Gigem247: ESPN statistics guru Bill Connelly wrote this week about the impact of analytics on the game of football and in particular about how the game has changed in terms of how it has pushed teams into going for it more often on fourth down.
He notes that “Over the course of five seasons, FBS teams went from going for it 60% of the time on fourth-and-1 to 74% — 92% of the time in opponents’ territory and 48% in their own.
