The conference realignment machine kicked back into gear Thursday when the Pac-12 announced the addition of four schools — Boise State, Fresno State, San Diego State and Colorado State — to bring its membership to six. The league, which prominently features Oregon State and Washington State after their exclusion from the last round of realignment, still remains in search of at least two more expansion targets in order to reach the NCAA’s mandated minimum of eight schools.
Where will the Pac-12 look for its next step? CBS Sports’ John Talty and Dennis Dodd report that American Athletic Conference schools west of the Mississippi River could be at the front of the line. That includes Rice, UTSA, North Texas and Memphis.
Each of those schools brings something of value to the table for the Pac-12, which figures to seek access to competitive television markets while also bolstering its football prowess with some of the top programs at the Group of Five level.
