Sun Devil Source: Arizona State head coach Herm Edwards first caught wind of former ASU kicker Brandon Ruiz’s injury roughly 24 hours before the Sun Devils were set to open their 2019 season at home against Kent State.
He learned it was a lower extremity muscle ailment but knew the junior kicker was in good enough shape to at least test his leg during warmups before making a decision about whether or not he could play, a question that would later be answered in the negative.
