ASU senior DB Macen Williams retires from football

By Chris Karpman, SunDevil Source: Fifth-year senior defensive back Macen Williams has decided to retire from football, Arizona State coach Kenny Dillingham said following the team’s Saturday scrimmage at Mountain America Stadium.

The decision by Williams, who practiced well through ASU’s Camp Tontozona scrimmage last Saturday but has not suited up this week, thins out the nickel corner position.

The decision by Macen Williams to retire ahead of what would have been his fifth Arizona State season makes it increasingly likely that Oregon transfer Cole Martin will start at nickel position, though senior safety Shamari Simmons can't be ruled out.
