By Chris Karpman, SunDevil Source: Clayton Smith will return to play another season at Arizona State, after he was granted a sixth year of eligibility last week by the NCAA, program sources told Sun Devil Source.
The 6-foot-4, 255-pound Smith, listed by ASU as a redshirt senior last season, had 19 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss and four sacks in 12 games in 2025. He started in three games, played 469 defensive snaps — second-most among the team’s defensive ends — and was a member of the Pat Tillman Leadership Council, as well as one of six players who represented the Sun Devils at Big 12 Media Days last July. Smith was ASU’s 13th-best-graded regular defensive player, according to Pro Football Focus.
