By Chris Karpman, Sun Devil Source: Several months after Arizona State’s loss to Texas in the Peach Bowl became the most-watched college football game in history (17.3 million viewers) with a kickoff earlier than 3 p.m. EST, Josh Pate labeled the Sun Devils as his pick for “America’s Football Team.”
“No. 1, it’s not an SEC or Big Ten team,” Pate explained on his ultra-popular Josh Pate’s College Football Show. “You can not be America’s Football Team and be in one of those conferences because you’ve got to have a likable quality about you and those conferences are not likable right now. The Q Rating in those conferences is way down. So not only is it not a Power Two team, it’s not Clemson or Notre Dame or Miami, like an ACC team but a powerhouse program.”
But the biggest reason Pate provided for his reasoning was the presence of an alumnus, Kenny Dillingham, turning the Sun Devils around from their worst two-season stint since World War II with their best-ever year-over-year improvement, from 3-9 to 11-3 and Big 12 champs.
